Animation
Shades Of Grey
It all comes down.To another shade of grey.Another boring moment.Inside a boring day.I feel my mind at ease.I see shapes of grey.Walking here and there. As I make make my way around.Another shade of grey.Fills up my mind. This I'm not sure.Is malevolent or benign.I blend with this pointless frame.Sit down at my chair.Filling up mind with colors. With thoughts of more to say.It all comes down.To another shade of grey...Another pointless color. In another pointles day.

Reading assignment 2
This assignment deals with the wide view and future creation of social communication and interaction through technology and computers. Lev Manovich's new media concentration on user generated context leaves me to believe the way social communication and other sources of human relationships are changing and becoming very lazy. I mean lazy in the sense that we can communicate through video now on youtube and other technologies which allow use the convenance of never leaving our homes creating more future generations of hermits. I also sit and waste hours upon hours of my time towards the computer but I acknowledge the fact we're becoming ever so reliant on technology to create easy tasks for usual means of everyday life. The reading I didn't quite understand but explored the reinventing youtube article which takes the revolutionary means of finding media sources through out the world in video posts. This further evolves into user creation to make videos of any type of source material for the viewers entertainment, education, understanding, and amusement.
Project 1 Critique
This project is untitled but if I had to name this piece I would probably call it "Waking Dream". Waking dream or a another name for a night terror or nightmare. I was very excited with the creation of this project because of the interesting requirements to work around. The idea of creating tension I continued to play around with extensively for this project. I went through many rough versions of the story but coming to the conclusion which was the final product.
I believe I could have further evolved the slideshow probably by adding more buildup on the tension played out within the story. I worked on creating relationships with objects and color by comparing the shade of the protagonist toe nail to the carpet color and the use of light creating diffused images outside the house. After watching my project over and over I've become very happy with the mood and atmosphere I wanted to convey. The style of shots and music I created went perfectly with what I was trying to express. The way tension played out in the story I thought was very successful because I broke it off in two parts the climax(buildup) and open ended closing. The first part where the door bell rings and the tension rises having the protagonist look through the window without seeing anyone and the final shot where the person breaks in right behind her and cuts to black creates the open ended closing. I wanted the viewer to ask themselves what will happen to her? What was that person behind her in relationship to the girl? Is there a connection or is this random? I wanted the viewer to create there own interpretations after the slideshow.
Sound played a very big role in the project because I needed two distinct elements to link the piece with tension or anticipation. I played around alot with pro tools and soundtrack pro until I stumbled on a piano key on pro tools that created a very unique scratching noise. I was immensity innovated by this sound that I knew this would be my window into making the atmosphere throughout the story. The two key musical scores within the piece are the beginning song which I worked on with pro tools and soundtrack pro to create a calm yet interesting mood of waking up starting the day. The other strong song in the story comes in the middle of the slideshow as a scratching violin immediately tells the audience something bad is going to happen.
Editing was interesting with this project because I edited my pictures with cs4, then created my music in soundtrack pro, pro tools, and then went into final cut pro. I started editing by complying everything into final cut and then sinking up the images with the music. I laid down my pictures first then through the music I played with the timing of each image compared to the sound. After everything felt good I then started to make minor adjustments until I was happy with the success of the clip. The sound was important because without it the audience wont get the sense of tension I was working to explore. Everything is layered in a way that if some components are out of place or missing the whole mood and theme expressing the project is lost.
Watching the slideshow without sound is something completely different. The images stand out within the 2:30 minute duration but the overall project becomes what I think is a very bland and unappealing show. The idea of listening to the project with other sources of sounds I believe wouldn't work because I really tried to create the overall world of this project by going through many different types of music sources. I've imagined this piece with a upbeat sound, something lively but it doesn't fit well at all with the images and actually becomes very outrageous and comical which are total opposites of what I was striving to achieve. The sound I put into this project is so extensive that the loss of the ambient sound throw away the whole theme of the project to me. The sounds of birds, cell phones, static from the Tv, refrigerator, door bell, and knocks all play very important key elements with the story and without them it simply doesn't work.

Project 2 Human after all.
For this project I was consumed with the idea of creating a flow of work the electronic music of Daft Punk which fully creates the theme or premise. I wanted to convey the impact of media (television) and the sense that what you see is apart of you and your surrounding environment cant be controlled but manipulated with our actions as humans inhabiting this earth. I wanted to find videos with large amounts of interlining topics dealing with the nature as human beings. The videos would include race, violence, war, media, politics, hunger, economy, depression, riots, hate crimes, etc. Being viewed by three? characters through a TV slowly becoming consumed by the images. They each become so consumed by the intense nature of what is being seen each starts to become very fearful of what they're seeing. I also want the images to start shaping into robotic forms.. such as very repeditive movements, walking, marching etc.

Video 1 test images and ideas
For this project I wanted to express a build up of tension with placed shots that give the viewer the sense of tension or a build up of that product. The storyboard follows someone waking up with their ordinary routines of breakfast, Tv etc. I then wanted someone playing with the main character in two different main scenes. The build up would end with a quick cut having the viewer wonder what will happen after the camera cuts to black. I want to create music with a calm, diffused sound but then break to a dark, creepy organs or strings.
5 Muted Commercials
The Truth.
This commercial shot in a manor to create a state of public interaction. It created the sense of surveillance as if it was a security camera taping everyday life. Interestingly nothing was polished in the commercial. There weren’t any fancy transitions of fading, dissolves, shot to black of any kind. A lot of the shots were low to the floor and fairly easy pans from left to right. Some scenes even needed to focus on an individual or refocus from a blurred picture. This is what gave me the sense of surveillance, or documentation, which played out during the commercial. The quick cuts to each scene create a structure purely conceived to one idea, the idea of anti-smoking so the commercial didn’t need to showcase any audio. The commercials point is very clear with its message of anti-smoking involvement to the wide public. The last shot of the commercial probably my favorite is a pan out shot of the entire area. The camera is overlooking people picking up small wind-up baby dolls crawling around. The amount of dolls with the orange truth trademark shirts spread around the urban environment of Ny creates an interesting blend of tone.
KFC hot wings.
The KFC commercial advertising they’re hot wings for the super bowl. This had many small scenes and quick transitions from one scene to another quickly introducing the view to the product and quickly ending connection to the viewer. This commercial was short but with the audio muted you still understood the premise of the commercial. People dug into the hot wings while the quick cut of the scene panned into a close up of the wing being pulled in half to exposing stream of its tenderness. The one transition I admired the most from this commercial was the first scene. Four people were eating the hot wings while someone passed into the cameras view thus changing the scene into the next cut. The use of a object on camera creating the transition I found very interesting because of its seamless flow.
Skin ID.
Skin ID. Oh no proactive watch out this very vague commercial introducing top celebrity Hayden Panettiere showcasing how Skin ID really works. I was hoping to find this type of commercial because of its very boring structure but having a long span of time explaining the product. This acme solution commercial had a white backdrop throughout the entire time. Many transitions included cuts and changes of medium to close ups of the actress. She was very attentive explaining the product while showing some charts here and there with the differences between their competitors proactive. The transitions were just regular cuts with no use of zooming in on an object or panning. It was very plain and self-explanatory.
Doritos.
My favorite commercial from the super bowl gets even funnier without listening to the audio. This commercial featuring two men with a “crystal ball” make a wish and throw it hoping to receive that wish. This commercial takes on a totally different aspect because you don’t understand what the two individuals are talking about and why the one throws the snow globe at the vending machine. The commercial is structured with quick cuts between the two men talking having medium to close ups of each person. There isn’t much movement in the commercial besides employees walking around. While watching this muted I probably laughed more because of the randomness I realized as he threw the ball at the vending machine. It was the fact it was unexpected without audio. Very hilarious indeed but also interesting because of the unexpected nature happening.
Pepsi.
Probably the most interesting, well-planned, and shot commercial I viewed for this assignment. The Pepsi commercial took you through and entire story while still keeping the viewer focused on the product. The first couple of scenes, which are my favorite because they look, like old clips of the west with film grain and a sepia tone. The commercial brought you through many different time periods including the 60,70,80,90. Portraying the Pepsi in every time being held and passed through or breaking out to each time zone. The commercial had many interesting far shots showing many actors and several different backgrounds to re-create the different time periods. This commercial was very well thought and planned out because it kept you watching because of the anticipation built up wondering where the Pepsi was going to end up in time.

Movement
Movement is the key towards defining the relationship within single picture and multi picture objects. Movement is interpreted by three different categories such as groups, series, and sequences. The uses of these specific movements are linked by many different possible outcomes. Each deals with many variations such as tone, focus, theme, scale, narration, transitions, time, repetition, and space. I found understanding Gertrude Stein explaination about repetition very interesting in its relationship to movement. Gertrude speaks of how,” slowly coming into ordered recognition, slowly becoming clearer to someone; Repeating, then, is in everyone.” The use of objects over in a repeating matter aren’t duplicates or repeats of themselves but repetitions involving time, space, animation, metamorphosis, motif, and context. This creates the sense that identical duplicates of an object do not exist and create certain reactions for the viewer depending on how many times a repetition is shown. After closely examining what Gertrude wrote I realized how a whole scenario of movements can be controlled, manipulated, and reinvented through the use of repetition within a sequence, group, and series of images.
